I had a wonderful dream, last night.

I've been in Greece, traveling again. And I visited an old friend. It was lovely. And I woke up this morning with a nice and comfortable feeling being very grateful.

The Harz more than an ideal spot for hiking

Even though I've lived near the Harz Mountains nearly all of my life, I haven't been there very often before.

The Harz is the northernmost mountain range of northern Germany. It has a length of 95 kilometers (southeast to northwest) and a width of 35 kilometers. The Harz with its beautiful landscape is ideal for hiking. And so I decided to climb the highest peak which is called the Brocken, or Blocksberg. Its altitude is 1,141 metres. This is below alpine dimensions. But nevertheless the Brocken tends to have a snow cover from September to May. The mean annual temperature is only 2.9 °C. Since the late medieval times, the Brocken has played an important role in legends of witches and devils. It is the most popular meeting point of witches in Europe. Even the German poet Goethe (1782-1832) took up the legends in his Faust.

Today at noon time, my friend Hendrik and me left for our 'big' trip. We drove to Schierke a small village near the Brocken and left our car over there.

It was great to see snow!!!

And immediately I wanted to do some winter sport. But unfortunately I broke my sledge last year.

Anyway, it was a sunny day with a wonderful blue sky. We had cookies, chocolate and hot tea. So started our hike in a really good mood.

Here are some unforgettable impressions of our hike.

We needed 2 hours for 6,5km of hiking. And when we finnaly arrived at the top. The view was gone and we disappeared in clouds.
